The 1500 DS spirit line of Nintendo DS games is a short line, only 9 volumes so far, of simple but classic Japanese table top games that have been re-engineered for Nintendo's hand held console. The are inexpensive, region-free range in subject from Chess to Arkanoid.
The 2nd 1500 DS Spirit game is dedicated to Shogi, which has come to be known as Japanese Chess. If you've never played the game before, this DS japanese game will teach you as you play with a "learning mode" as well as a "quiz mode" which quizzes you on your Shogi judgement skills by plopping you down in the middle of a match and asking you what the best course of action is.
If you speak japanese and are willing to learn, sounds like a great game for a cheap price!
